Works with the gear you already carry.
Bluetooth laser meters and survey instruments, an environment sensor for cave air, and an external GPS receiver. Set each one up once in Settings and it is ready every trip.
What connects
| Device | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Laser Meter | Distance and inclination for splays and the Rangefinder, past LiDAR range |
| Environment Sensor | Temperature, humidity and air pressure on every station |
| Thermal Camera | Thermal photos and video, and heat painted on scans |
| GPS Receiver | A sharper entrance fix |
Bearings and mounting
Same bearings, any meter.
Distance and inclination come from the device; direction always comes from your iPhone, so switching meters never changes your bearings. A survey instrument's own compass bearing is saved with each splay too, for checking later.
Mount it like a remote.
Meter back to back behind the phone, both screens facing you, tops the same way. Aim the phone and shoot: rangefinder readings to a note, or splays onto the station, with no 5 m limit.
Cave air on every station
Carry an environment sensor and every station and pin logs temperature, humidity and air pressure as you drop it. Save spot readings any time. They travel in the CSVs, GeoJSON, KML, GPX and the PDF report. Nothing to pair: SpeleoMap only listens.
A sharper entrance fix
Pair a Bluetooth GPS receiver in iOS Settings and the entrance fix records that it came from the receiver, so anyone reading the survey knows how the coordinates were taken.
More to come
Have a device that isn't listed? Connect it anyway and send Diagnostics from Settings, Support. That is how new devices get added.
