Set Up

What it is, pairing, mounting and alignment.

What it is: Works with the FLIR ONE Edge and FLIR ONE Edge Pro.
A FLIR thermal camera on your iPhone: a live heat picture, thermal photos and thermal video, with the temperature of every spot saved inside. With LiDAR it becomes ThermDAR: every pixel gets a distance too, and scans get heat painted onto the mesh. Use it for air flow, water, warm-blooded cave life and finding where a passage breathes.

Works with the FLIR ONE Edge and FLIR ONE Edge Pro (wireless, clip-on). Readings are for cave and survey work, not for checking people: SpeleoMap is not a medical device.

Pair it: Connect an Edge once and it reconnects next time.
Settings, Devices: turn on Thermal and tap the row under it. Turn the camera on and keep it near your iPhone, then tap Find a thermal camera and tap yours. Bluetooth finds it, then iOS asks to join the camera's Wi-Fi; tap Join.

While connected, your iPhone uses the camera's Wi-Fi, so it has no Wi-Fi internet (cellular still works, if you have it). Disconnect the FLIR to use your home Wi-Fi.

The screen then shows the model, serial number, firmware, sensor size and battery. SpeleoMap remembers it: next time, tap Thermal in the camera and it reconnects. Forget this camera removes it; turning Thermal Camera off disconnects it and hides Thermal in the camera.

Mount it: Clip it clear of the main lens and the torch.
Clip the FLIR on the back, over the middle of the camera island. Keep the main 1x lens (bottom left on the 17 Pro) and the torch clear: once a Cave Line starts, the survey tracks with that lens and needs light. LiDAR keeps working with the clip on. Put the clip in the same spot every time; if it moves, align again (below).
Align and compass: Once at home, so heat lands in the right place.
Settings, Calibration:
  • Overlay lines the FLIR's picture up with the iPhone camera, so temperatures land on the right spot in ThermDAR photos, video and scans. Do it once, in good light, with no survey running: point at a bright scene with clear edges 2 m or more away (a doorway, a window frame), hold still and tap Align. Check the FLIR picture over the iPhone's (edges should line up), then Save. The row shows the date, or Not aligned.
  • Thermal: the clipped-on FLIR pulls the compass a little. Calibrate the compass first without it, clip it on, then measure it here. SpeleoMap tells from the readings whether the FLIR is on and takes its pull out.

Order and details: Calibration.
