Permissions

What SpeleoMap asks for, why, and how to change it.

Where to change them: Any time, in the Settings app.
Open the iPhone Settings app, tap Apps, then SpeleoMap. Each permission has its own switch, so turning one off never breaks the others. Apple Health is set in the Health app instead (1.5.2 Apple Health).
Camera: Tracking, scans, photos and video.
SpeleoMap tracks where you are with the camera, and takes scans, photos and video with it. It also runs the torch. Off: camera tracking, scans, photos and video stop working.
Location: The entrance fix and your hikes.
Used at the cave entrance to place your survey on a map, and on hikes to record the trail. Never inside a cave. A Hike Line needs Precise Location on (Settings, Apps, SpeleoMap, Location). A hike keeps recording with the phone in your pack. Off: no entrance fix and no Hike Lines.
Motion and Fitness: Your path, steps and depth.
The gyroscope, accelerometer, pedometer and barometer help record your path through the cave, your steps and how deep you are. Leave it on.
Microphone: Sound on your videos.
Only for video sound. Off: videos record silent and a banner says so. To film without sound on purpose, turn video audio off in 9.10 Media instead.
Bluetooth, Local Network and Photos: Asked only when you need them.
  • Bluetooth: asked when you turn on a laser meter, survey instrument, environment sensor or thermal camera (9.8 Devices).
  • Local Network: asked the first time you connect a FLIR ONE Edge or Edge Pro, which talks to the iPhone over its own Wi-Fi. Off: the thermal camera can't connect.
  • Photos: asked the first time SpeleoMap saves to the Photos app. Choose Add Photos Only; SpeleoMap never reads your library. Off: your photos and video stay in SpeleoMap.
