App Basics

Tabs, project items, buttons used everywhere, and status.

Icons are for tools, the things you do; words are for places, such as tabs and titles. One icon means one thing across the app, with the few shared icons noted. Each group shows the icons as they appear in the app. The same list is in the app's User Guide (Settings → Guide), where you can search it.

Tabs: What each tab icon means.

Icon	Name	What it does
	Workout	Start, pause and end a workout; heart rate and trip stats.
	Action	Where you record: the cave map, the hike map or training.
	Scans	Every scan in the project.
	Media	Every photo and video in the project.
	Details	Name, team, counts, notes, export and import.

Things in a project: Icons for lines, scans, pins and media.

Icon	Name	What it does
	Project	One cave or one trip. Also the group for project notes.
	Cave Line	A surveyed centerline underground.
	Hike Line	A GPS trail on the surface.
	Tape Line	A measured tape survey.
	Station	A survey point underground. Always on a line. The same icon is Snap.
	Pin	A point on the surface. May or may not be on a line.
	Annotation	A cave feature symbol (NSS or KSS).
	Scan	A LiDAR scan of a passage.
	Photo	A photo, or a measurement taken on a LiDAR photo.
	Video	A video, or a measurement taken on a LiDAR video.
	Splay	Wall shots from a station.
	Text note	A note you typed.
	Range note	Rangefinder readings. Also the Bluetooth laser meter.
	Measure note	A measurement saved in a viewer. On a map or viewer, the Measure tools.
	Training	SRT, running and crawling sessions.

Everywhere: Common buttons you'll see on every screen.

Icon	Name	What it does
	Save	In a measure bar: keep the readout as a Measure note. In a list or the camera: import, or save readings.
	Clear	Rub out the points or cuts.
	Close / stop	Close a screen or stop what's running.
	Delete	Delete for good.
	Rename / edit	Change a name or a note.
	Share / export	Send it somewhere.
	More	More actions for this item.
	Filter	Show only some kinds.
	Chosen / saved	The current pick, or a save that worked.
	Add	Add a new item to the list.
	Back	Go back one screen.
	Goes to	Opens another screen.
	Opens here	Opens the list or section in place.
	Closes	Closes the list or section.
	Opens outside	Leaves SpeleoMap: email, a website or the Files app.

Status and warnings: Icons that flag tracking, heat, battery and other problems.

Icon	Name	What it does
	Warning	Something needs you, such as POSITION UNSURE.
	GPS lost	No GPS fix; the line carries on with motion.
	Hot	The phone is hot; give it a break.
	Slow down	Moving too fast for a good scan.
	Heart rate off	No heart rate being recorded.
	Locked	Can't be changed now, such as a workout's activity once it has started.
	Queued	Waiting to process.
	Done	Finished or saved.
