Caving is a workout. Train for it.
Crawling, climbing, squeezing and hauling gear make caving one of the hardest full-body days you can have. SpeleoMap logs every trip to Apple Health and adds training for the surface.
What it tracks
Calories and depth
Calories that fit caving.
Apple's estimate assumes walking. SpeleoMap works out caving effort from what you are actually doing: still, walking, stooping, crawling, climbing or descending, with your weight plus your gear weight on rope. Your weight never leaves the phone.
Depth, without GPS.
The barometer tracks how far below the entrance you go, so every trip records its max depth. Distance and pace come from your Cave Line underground and your Hike Line on the trail.
Heart rate
Wear an Apple Watch and the live heart rate shows on the workout screen. Other watches that save heart rate to Apple Health work too; their readings arrive when their app syncs.
SRT, runs and crawl practice
SRT laps and rigs.
Practice on a tree, a bridge or a gym wall with the phone stowed. The barometer counts every lap of 3 m (10 ft) or more, with its height, time and climb rate. Compare Frog, Texas, rope walker, Mitchell or your own rig. Saved to Health as Climbing.
Runs and crawl practice.
Runs use the motion sensors, so road, trail, track or treadmill all work without GPS, with a split every kilometer or mile. Crawl sessions use the same Stow engine you cave with: posture, distance and crawl time.
Badges and the trip summary
Badges named after formations.
Caving, hiking, survey and training badges level up through seven tiers, Soda Straw to Cave Pearl. Milestones run from Easy to Rare, and the firsts double as a tour of the app.
Trip summary.
After every trip: time, distance, calories, depth, climb and a movement bar for walking, stooping, crawling, swimming and rope, plus how it compares with your last trip of the same kind in the same project.
