Survey Tools, Layers and Notes

Survey numbers, layers, compass, saving and trail notes.

Survey tools: Numbers for trip reports and route planning.
  • Shot: distance, true bearing and inclination between two points. Always true north.
  • Along: the distance following the trail, next to the straight distance.
  • Height: between two points on one trail, how much you climbed and dropped, and the net change.
  • Area (Map and Plan): plan area and perimeter.

Profile has Along and Height on Distance, Height only on Time.

Layers: Declutter the view or add reference marks.
  • Pins (all but Profile) and Pin labels (Plan and 3D; off in 3D to start).
  • Grid (Profile and 3D), Compass (Plan and 3D), XYZ gizmo (3D).
The compass: Stay oriented while you rotate the view.
N always points to true north on screen; the pill shows the bearing at the top of the screen.
Save and Clear: Keep a number for later, or start fresh.
The measure bar reads Save, tools, Clear. Save keeps the readout as a Measure note, on its pin when it has one; the eraser clears. Saved measurements are under Details, Notes.
Trail notes: Where approach details live for next time.
Each line in the list below has a Trail notes field for anything worth remembering about the walk in.
