Record Video

Size, frame rate, stabilization, low light and storage.

Record a video: Plain clips with no depth; LiDAR video is separate.
Switch to Video below the shutter and press record (or volume up); press again to stop. Video is stabilized and records sound unless you turn off Record audio with video. The mode switch hides while recording.
Size, frame rate and format: Trade storage and heat against picture quality.
Two round chips at the top: tap the size (HD) to cycle 720p, 1080p and 4K; tap the number for 30 or 60 fps. 1080p at 30 fps to start. 720p saves storage and runs cooler; 4K uses about 4x the storage and is hidden where the camera can't record it. If 60 fps isn't possible at a size, it records at 30. Format (Media settings): High efficiency (HEVC, about half the size, to start) or Most compatible (H.264) for older editors.
Action mode: Crops a little and may lower size or frame rate.
The running figure at the top: extra-strong stabilization for crawling and climbing. Rear camera, regular video, main lens. It crops a little and needs good light.

If your size and frame rate can't be stabilized, it drops 60 fps first, then the size (4K to 1080p to 720p), and saves the change (the camera shows a note such as Action mode: HD · 30). While it's on, only sizes it can stabilize are offered.

Low light: Helps when your light isn't enough.
At 30 fps, Auto low-light frame rate (on to start) slows to 24 or 25 fps in dim light for a brighter picture. If Auto-torch is on (Scanning settings), the torch comes on when you switch to Video or LiDAR.
Storage per minute: Plan how long you can film before the phone fills.
In LiDAR video the number at the top shows about how much storage a minute uses: an estimate before you record, the real figure while you do. Roughly 90 MB a minute at 1920 x 1440, 30 fps and 10 depth frames; about 235 MB at 4K.
Stops before storage runs out: Set your own cap in Profile settings.
Video stops on its own at your storage cap or when the iPhone is nearly full, and the clip is still saved. LiDAR video checks every second and stops with about 500 MB left ("iPhone storage almost full"). Set the cap in Profile settings.
