3.3.2 · Survey a Cave

The Drop Station Menu

Four groups, every tool, and when each one shows.

Open it: Four icons along the bottom.
With a Cave Line recording, tap DROP STATION: Media, Scan, Measure and Log. Each opens its own row of tools in the same spot, with Back on the left. Nothing drops until you pick a tool. Everything anchors to your spot on the line. Long-press the map instead for a plain station.
Media: Camera, Video or Thermal.
Each opens the camera in that one mode, and the shot goes on the station. Thermal: clip the thermal camera on and drop the pin; it connects if needed. A LiDAR video drops a second station where it ends. See 6.1 The Camera.
Scan: LiDAR Scan or ThermDAR.
Scan (blue) or ThermDAR (yellow, with a thermal camera on a LiDAR iPhone). Each drops start and end stations in its color. See 5.1 Take a Scan.
Measure: Splay, Tape Line or Unassigned.
  • Splay: wall shots from the station (3.4 Splays and LRUD). Shows on iPhones with LiDAR, or with a laser meter paired.
  • Tape Line: a straight tape survey (below).
  • Unassigned: places an imported station that has no position yet where you stand. Shows only while imported stations are waiting, in State B or C.
Log: Note, Annotation or Environment.
  • Note: a text note on the station.
  • Annotation: a cave map symbol from the NSS or KSS set (9.1.3 Display).
  • Environment: the sensor monitor opens; RECORD drops a station that is just the air reading (10.2 Environment Sensor).
Tape Line: Exports on its own as a Tape Survey.
Runs a straight tape between points, like a traditional survey. Tap DROP POINT at each one (A, B, C...) and FINISH to save. DROP POINT waits until tracking is good. The Cave Line keeps recording behind it, and the tape exports on its own as Tape Survey (.svx).
