Your data, your formats.
SpeleoMap exports to the formats your grotto already uses — Survex for survey software, OBJ and PLY for 3D tools, GPX and KML for mapping, PDF for printed reports, and CSV for everything else. Export from the Details tab on any project.

SpeleoMap Bundle — .speleobundle
The full project archive — everything in one file. Contains your Map Lines, stations, survey math, LiDAR scans as OBJ meshes, tape lines, annotations, photos, videos, and hike lines. AirDrop a .speleobundle directly to a teammate's iPhone and SpeleoMap opens it for import automatically.
Recommended when sharing with other SpeleoMap users.
ZIP Archive
The same bundle contents as a standard .zip file. Double-click on macOS, Windows, or Linux to access the raw files. Inside you'll find:
- manifest.json. bundle metadata and project statistics
- README.txt. human-readable description of the contents
- entrance.json. cave entrance GPS coordinate (if locked)
- calibration_history.json. project calibration snapshots
- stations.csv. all stations with survey math in meters and radians
- scans.csv. scan summary table
- workouts/. Map Lines, waypoint trajectories, and OBJ scan meshes organized by workout
- tapelines/. tape line waypoints and derived leg data (slant, horizontal, azimuth)
- annotations/. notes, hazard markers, and cartographic symbols
- photos/. JPEG photos copied verbatim
Recommended for desktop survey workflows in Blender, Survex, Therion, or CloudCompare.
Survex (.svx)
A Survex-compatible survey data file generated from your Map Line stations and survey legs. Opens directly in Survex and Therion. Units honor your Settings choice — metric or imperial.
3D mesh — OBJ, PLY, USDZ
LiDAR scan meshes exported as standard 3D formats:
- OBJ + MTL. Wavefront mesh with material file. Opens in Blender, MeshLab, CloudCompare, and most 3D tools
- PLY. Polygon file format, widely supported for point cloud and mesh workflows
- USDZ. Apple's Universal Scene Description. Opens in Preview, Reality Composer, and AR Quick Look
GPX and KML
GPS exchange formats for your Hike Lines and cave entrance coordinates. GPX opens in Gaia GPS, CalTopo, Garmin BaseCamp, and most mapping tools. KML opens in Google Earth and other geo viewers.
PDF report
A formatted trip report including the project name, team, dates, entrance GPS, calibration state, station list, and annotations. Suitable for grotto records and trip filing.
CSV
A flat station table with survey math — position, heading, distance, elevation, and annotation data for every station in the project. Opens in Excel, Numbers, or any spreadsheet tool. Bundle CSVs always use meters and radians for compatibility with desktop survey software.
Scope and Sharing
Export a single Map Line
You don't have to export the whole project. From the export sheet, select specific Map Lines to export only those lines, their stations, anchored scans, and any media assigned to those stations. Useful for sharing one passage survey with a teammate without sending the entire project.
Sharing from within the app
You don't have to go through the export sheet to share individual items. From the tabs inside a project you can share directly:
- Scans tab. swipe a scan or use the context menu to share it as a
.speleoscanfile - Photos tab. share individual photos or videos via any iOS share destination
- Map Lines. share a single Map Line from its detail view
These per-item shares are quick handoffs — no full bundle needed when you just want to pass one scan or photo to a teammate.
Sharing a full bundle via AirDrop
AirDrop is the fastest way to get a full project bundle from your device to a teammate's. Export as .speleobundle, tap AirDrop in the share sheet, and select their iPhone. SpeleoMap opens the bundle on the receiving end — no Files app needed. See Import for what happens next.
