Your identity fields — full name, email address, NSS membership number, and grotto name. These appear in exported PDF reports and trip records. Edit anytime under Settings → Profile.

Sets the maximum storage SpeleoMap will use for project data. Video recording auto-stops before this limit is reached to prevent the device from filling up. Adjust under Settings → Profile.

SpeleoMap refines your stride estimate from AR-measured chords as you record Map Lines. This improves pack-mode distance accuracy over time. Under Settings → Profile you can:

• Learn stride from AR. toggle stride learning on or off
• Height. enter your height (feet and inches). Used as a fallback stride estimate before enough AR samples are collected
• Reset learned stride. clears collected samples and the learned value. Your height and the toggle are preserved

Choose how the app looks. Dark for underground, Light for daylight and surface use, or Greyscale for a plain black-and-white look. Under Settings → Profile → Appearance.

Switch all measurements between Metric and Imperial. Updates every readout in the app immediately. Under Settings → Profile → Appearance.

Which cave-cartography symbol set the annotation picker offers. Currently available: NSS (National Speleological Society) and KSS (Kentucky Speleological Survey). Switching changes the symbols offered — it never alters annotations you've already dropped. If your survey uses a standard not in the list, contact support to have it added. Under Settings → Profile → Appearance. See Notes & Annotations.

Color-code the survey station dots on a Map Line by tool type. Five pickers: Scan, Photo, Note, Tape, and Annotation. Reset returns all to defaults. Applies in Dark and Light mode; Greyscale uses fixed shades. Under Settings → Profile → Appearance.

How bold the ground-plane grid looks in the 3D view — for both caving and hiking viewports. Slide to 0% to hide the grid entirely. Distant grid lines always fade regardless of this setting. Under Settings → Profile → Appearance.

Detail level of each LiDAR scan. Higher quality produces a more detailed mesh but takes longer to process and uses more storage. Under Settings → Scanning. See LiDAR.

How finely SpeleoMap records your movement as you walk a Map Line. Finer detail draws a smoother traverse but uses more storage. Under Settings → Scanning. See LiDAR.

Turns the rear LED on automatically when a scan starts. Off by default — the torch draws battery and heat. Under Settings → Scanning. See LiDAR.

Long scans are split into segments automatically. Larger segments mean fewer splits; smaller segments are gentler on older or hotter devices. Options: 250K, 500K, or 1M points. Under Settings → Scanning. See LiDAR.

Master toggle for all vibration feedback — pin drops, scan events, alerts. Per-event haptic settings are preserved when this is off. Under Settings → Warnings & Alerts.

Plays a short tone for warnings (excessive motion, recalibration). Doesn't interrupt music or workout audio. Safety alerts (pack-mode drift) always sound regardless of this toggle. Under Settings → Warnings & Alerts.

Shows a SLOW DOWN banner during a scan if you move too fast. Moving too fast can leave gaps in scan color. Pair with Motion haptic to also feel the warning. Under Settings → Warnings & Alerts.

While your phone is stowed, watches the Map Line for a runaway path — a folded or spinning traverse from accumulated drift. Buzzes to alert you and flags that stretch as low-confidence so it's excluded from survey distance. Never stops recording. You review flagged stretches when you take the phone back out. Under Settings → Warnings & Alerts. See Cave Survey.

When SpeleoMap can't reconcile your heading after coming out of pack mode (usually stale calibration or magnetic interference), this keeps the reconciliation screen open with the reason shown so you can act on it. Turn off to auto-close silently. Under Settings → Warnings & Alerts.

Thermal warning. how early the app warns you the device is getting too hot during a scan. Adjust sensitivity to match your conditions. Battery warnings. alerts at 50%, 20%, and 10%. Both under Settings → Warnings & Alerts.

Device-safety stops always run regardless of these settings — SpeleoMap auto-stops a scan if the phone overheats to critical or runs critically low on memory. These protect your device and your data and can't be turned off.

Activity type. choose Caving or Hiking as the default workout type logged to Apple Health. Heart rate tracking. toggle HR sampling on or off. HR requires an Apple Watch or a paired HR source. Under Settings → Workout. See Apple Health.

How often the Hike Line records a GPS point. Fine gives a smoother trail line; Coarse uses less storage. Under Settings → Hike. See Hike Line.

The basemap shown on the hike view. Options: Standard, Hybrid, Satellite, or Topo. Topo uses OpenTopoMap tiles layered on Apple's basemap — useful in backcountry where Apple's road-focused tiles are sparse. Requires cell or Wi-Fi to load. Under Settings → Hike. See Hike Line.

Allow ad-hoc scan. shows the Scan button on the hike map for capturing 3D scans of surface features mid-hike. Auto-emit route to Apple Health. saves the trail GPS route to your Health profile alongside the workout. Under Settings → Hike. See Hike Line.

How GPS coordinates are displayed across the hike UI. Options: Decimal degrees, DMS, UTM, or MGRS. Under Settings → Hike. See Hike Line.

Your iPhone's built-in magnets (MagSafe ring, battery, speaker) produce a fixed magnetic bias at the sensor that interferes with Earth's field. SpeleoMap's compass calibration measures and subtracts that bias for accurate cave heading. Run this outdoors away from metal before your first survey. The status row shows the calibration date and offset. Recalibrate anytime under Settings → Calibration → Compass calibration. See Cave Survey.

How aggressively SpeleoMap monitors position drift during a survey and prompts you to drop a new datum. Expressed as a percentage of distance traveled. Lower = more sensitive recalibration prompts; higher = fewer prompts. Under Settings → Calibration.

The same drift threshold applied while the phone is stowed in pack mode. Default is higher than the active-survey tolerance because pack-mode tracking is inherently noisier. Under Settings → Calibration.

Color and size of the datum pins on your Map Line. Large is the original bold dot that stands off the line; Normal matches the regular station pins. Under Settings → Calibration.

Save to Photos. mirrors every captured photo and video to your iOS Photos library. Your project always keeps its own copy regardless. Record audio with video. captures sound with video recordings; turn off for silent video. Video quality. 720p saves storage and runs cooler; 1080p is the default; 4K captures more detail but uses roughly 4x the storage per minute. Under Settings → Photos & Video. See Photos & Video.

Import a .speleobundle as a new standalone project from Settings. This is the system-level import — it doesn't require an open project and always creates a new project in your list. To merge a bundle into an existing project, open that project and use the Details tab instead. See Import.
