Before a Trip
Signal, battery, the screen and your iOS version.
No signal needed: Airplane Mode is fine.
SpeleoMap works fully offline. GPS still works in Airplane Mode, so the entrance fix and Hike Lines work with no cell service.
Battery: Charge up and carry a spare.
Start full and carry a battery pack. SpeleoMap warns you at 50%, 20% and 10%, and when the phone is getting hot (9.6 Alerts).
The screen: It stays on while you survey.
While a line, a scan or the camera is tracking, the screen stays on, so Auto-Lock can't interrupt the survey. Press the side button to lock the phone and stow it (Stow Mode).
Your iOS version: iOS 26 or later; skip iOS 26.4.
SpeleoMap needs iOS 26 or later. iOS 26.4 has a known drift problem with tracking on iPhones with LiDAR; SpeleoMap warns you if you're on it. Update to a newer version before a trip. Check it in Settings, General, About.
