Alerts
Feedback, warnings, battery.
Safety: Alerts that are always on, and why.
Tap Safety for the full list; tap an alert to read when it appears and why. These alerts have no switch: each one tells you your data or position may be wrong, or protects the phone.
- Scan Shutoff: a scan stops before the phone overheats or runs out of memory, saving what you scanned (5.1 Take a Scan).
- Scan Limit: a warning as a scan nears that limit.
- GPS Lost: your hike position is a guess until GPS returns.
- Position Check: in the Navigator after motion tracking restarts; snap to a station.
- Stow Blowout: Stow drift too large to trust.
- Uncalibrated: the compass needs calibrating before a survey.
- iOS Version: iOS 26.4's LiDAR drift bug.
Groups: Every alert switch, in four groups.
Every alert you can turn off is here, in groups that open and close in place (Expand / Collapse at the top). Each group shows how many of its switches are on, such as 3 of 4 on.
Phone: Heat and Battery.
Heat sets how early you hear the phone is getting hot. Battery alerts at 50%, 20% and 10%. Before you go: 1.5.3 Before a Trip.
Feedback: Haptics, Sounds, Drops and Badges.
- Haptics: all vibration, on or off. The Stow drift alert still buzzes when it's off.
- Sounds: a short tone for moving too fast in a scan and a loose phone in Stow Mode. Doesn't stop your music. The Stow drift alert sounds even when it's off.
- Drops: the buzz when you drop a station, pin, tape point or datum.
- Badges: the banner when you earn a badge. You still earn them all; see 9.1.2 Badges.
Survey: Tracking, Remind, Drift and Tiles.
- Tracking: while a Cave Line records, if tracking isn't normal for 3 seconds the phone beeps and buzzes every 2 seconds until it is. Hold still, add light or step back to where it last tracked. It sounds even with Sounds off; Haptics still controls the buzz. It never sounds while the camera, Stow Mode or the background has the tracking. See 3.2.1 Start a Cave Line.
- Remind: each time SpeleoMap opens fresh it asks you to calibrate the compass and shows when you last did; when off, a note reminds you surveys are more accurate when you calibrate every session. See 1.4 Calibration.
- Drift: the Stow drift alert; its tolerance is in 9.12 Stow.
- Tiles: on the Hike map, suggests a faster map style when tiles load slowly.
Camera: Coaching, Buzz, Lens and Mic.
- Coaching (iPhones with LiDAR): SLOW DOWN when you move too fast for a clean scan. Buzz buzzes for it too. See Take a Scan.
- Lens: a “Lens looks dirty” banner when mud or a smudge is on the lens (iPhones that can tell). Other camera banners: 6.1.4 Warnings, Modes and Tips.
- Mic: a banner when video will record without sound.
