4.3 · Stow Mode

Accuracy

What to expect from stowed distances, and how to keep them honest.

Less precise than hand-held: Set expectations before you trust a stowed stretch.
Stow Mode estimates; hand-held tracking measures. Stow when you need to and go back to hand-held when you can.
Snap to reset drift: The best habit for keeping stowed stretches honest.
When you take the phone out at a known station, snap to it; that ties the stowed stretch back to solid ground. Somewhere new, drop a station so the next stretch starts from a marked point. See Stations.
Drift alert: What that buzz in your pocket means.
If the stowed path starts to run away (folds or spins), the phone buzzes. That stretch is flagged low-confidence and left out of your survey distance; recording never stops. You review flagged stretches when you take the phone out. Set the tolerance in Stow Mode settings.

The tolerance is how much drift, as a percent of distance traveled, is allowed before it alerts.

Calibrated styles help most: Where to spend your setup time first.
The biggest gain is calibrating the styles you actually use, in the mount you actually wear. See Calibrate a Style.
