Tools, Import and Sharing

Tools, temperature, importing and sharing media.

Tools: Tools sit on one line above the bottom bar.
The tool line has the tool sets at the far right, only the ones that shot can use: Measure (the ruler) on LiDAR and ThermDAR shots, Temperature (the thermometer) on thermal ones. Tap one and its tools open on the left of the same line, Save first and the eraser last; one set at a time, and it stays open as you swipe. Marks from both sets stay on the picture. Every Measure tool is explained in Measure on LiDAR Photos and Video.
Temperature: Photos can also be recolored with another palette.
On a thermal photo, or a paused thermal clip, tap Temperature and tap the picture: each tap reads the temperature at that spot in °C or °F (your units), up to 6 spots; a 7th starts over. Save keeps them as a note; the eraser clears them. It reads the temperature saved in the file, so no FLIR needs to be connected. On a ThermDAR shot each spot also shows its distance. On photos, the Palette menu recolors the picture (As saved, or one of FLIR's palettes) until you move to another photo. In a clip it uses the nearest temperature frame to where you paused; scrubbing clears the spots.
Import photos and video: Date, location and depth come along, so measuring still works.
Tap Import at the top right of the Media tab. Pick Files opens the Files app; From Photos opens your Photos library.

Photos come in as JPEG, HEIC, PNG, TIFF, GIF or WebP (anything that isn't JPEG or HEIC is saved as HEIC); video as MOV, MP4 or M4V. Everything in the file stays with it: the date it was taken (Media sorts by it), its location if it has one, and any depth, so a LiDAR or portrait photo can still be measured. FLIR thermal photos come in as thermal.

Each lands in Media tagged Imported, keeping its file name. Open it and tap Assign to put it on its station or pin. Imports from Files are also saved to the Photos app (if Save to Photos app is on); picks from Photos aren't saved again.

Shooting with another camera: For cave media shot on anything but the iPhone.
Plug the camera or its card into your iPhone (a card reader works too): it shows in the Files app under Locations. Then use Import, Pick Files. Photos and video from any camera come in this way: an action camera, an SLR, or a thermal camera that saves to a card.
Sharing: A picture for any app, or the full file for SpeleoMap.
Share asks what to send:
  • Photo (as shown, with marks): a picture of what's on screen with its measurements and temperatures, for any app. On a video: Video (the clip) or Frame (with marks). A Range set: Photos (with readings).
  • SpeleoMap file (all data): everything, so a teammate can measure and read it in SpeleoMap: depth, gravity, temperatures, the visual photo. A LiDAR video goes as one .speleovideo file with its depth frames.

Copies are named after the cave and carry the project, station or pin and caption. Never a location. More in Export Formats.

Save to Photos app: Turn it off to keep cave media in SpeleoMap only.
Every photo and video you capture or import is also saved to your Photos library, so it doubles as a backup. On to start; turn it off in Media settings to keep cave media in SpeleoMap only. LiDAR videos go there as plain video; their depth stays in SpeleoMap.
