Finding Your Files
Find, move and back up SpeleoMap files.
The Files app: Where every export, backup and shared file lives.
Files is the blue folder app that comes with your iPhone (swipe down on the Home Screen and type Files if you can't find it). Tap Browse at the bottom to see your places:
- On My iPhone, SpeleoMap: SpeleoMap's own folder on this iPhone. Settings, Data, Files opens it in one tap. Your live projects are kept out of sight inside the app, so nothing you do in Files can break one; to copy a project out, use its Export.
- iCloud Drive: your iCloud files, the same on your Mac and other devices.
- Downloads: where AirDropped files land when they don't open an app.
Find a file fast: Recents and search.
Tap Recents at the bottom of Files to see what you saved last. Or pull down on any Files screen and search: type the project name, or SpeleoMap_Backup for a backup (backups are named by date, such as SpeleoMap_Backup_103126).
What SpeleoMap files look like: The SpeleoMap icon, and what each one is.
SpeleoMap files show the SpeleoMap icon. Files hides the end of the name, so look at the icon and the kind (tap and hold a file, then Get Info): SpeleoMap Project Bundle (a whole project), SpeleoMap Backup (everything on the iPhone), and single shared items such as a scan, Cave Line, tape line, photo or LiDAR video. Tap one and SpeleoMap opens it. A Backup opened this way tells you where to restore it: Settings, Data, Import.
From your Mac or PC: AirDrop, or a cable for big files.
- AirDrop (Mac): drag the file onto your iPhone in AirDrop. A SpeleoMap file opens SpeleoMap; anything else goes to Downloads.
- Cable (best for a large backup): plug in your iPhone, open Finder, click your iPhone in the sidebar, then the Files tab, and drag the file onto SpeleoMap. On Windows, use the Apple Devices app the same way. It then shows in Files under On My iPhone, SpeleoMap.
- iCloud Drive: put the file in iCloud Drive on your computer and wait for it to finish uploading.
To your Mac or PC: Get an export or backup off the iPhone.
From the share sheet after an export or Backup, tap AirDrop and pick your Mac, or Save to Files and choose iCloud Drive. With a cable, use the Finder Files tab (or Apple Devices on Windows): open SpeleoMap and drag the file out.
iCloud Drive: Big files take time to reach your other devices.
A file has to finish uploading before your other devices can open it. A large backup can take a long time. A cloud icon next to a file means it is in iCloud but not on this iPhone yet; tap it to download. On a Mac, Finder shows upload progress next to the file.
Keep backups safe: Store backups outside SpeleoMap's folder.
Reset erases everything in On My iPhone, SpeleoMap, including a backup saved there. Save backups to iCloud Drive, your Mac or a drive instead. Deleting the app erases SpeleoMap's folder too (1.5.4 Storage, Offload and Delete).
Show file extensions: See the full file name (optional).
In Files, tap the ··· button at the top, then View Options, and turn on Show All Extensions. Names then end in .speleobundle, .speleobackup and so on.
