Tracking, Heat and Video

When something goes wrong, heat, tracking, video and Stow.

Something went wrong: Email support right away; it waits in your Outbox.

Why. Diagnostics carry your last 5 sessions. Send while the problem is still in them, and before you forget what happened.

Fix. Settings, Support, Email, with Attach diagnostics on. Add a line on what you saw. Underground, the email waits in Mail's Outbox and sends by itself when you have signal.

Phone getting hot: Pause and cool it against cave rock; the line keeps recording.

Why. LiDAR and tracking make heat. SpeleoMap shows a warning, and stops a scan on its own if the phone gets critically hot.

Fix. You don't have to stop right away: pause the scan and let the phone cool against cave rock. The line keeps recording.

Line curves when I walk straight: Slow down, add light and snap to a station.

Why. Tracking is struggling: low light, blank walls and fast moves cause it.

Fix. Slow down, hold steady, add light and point at textured rock. Drop stations often. Once it has drifted, stand on a station, the entrance or a datum and tap Snap. If tracking runs away, SpeleoMap holds the line on the last good point and shows POSITION UNSURE until you snap.

Up and down is off: Drop stations at the top and bottom of pitches.

Why. Vertical is less reliable than horizontal in pits, climbs and steep passage. That's a limit of the phone's sensors.

Fix. Drop stations at the top and bottom of pitches. Horizontal isn't affected.

Video records silent, or the mic banner shows: Nothing breaks, and sound comes back once the call ends.

Why. A call (phone, FaceTime or a video call app) or another app is using the microphone, and iOS won't share it.

Fix. Nothing breaks: the camera keeps working and records without sound, and the banner says so (its X hides it). End the call or close the other app, then reopen the camera for sound.

Stow distance looks wrong: Match the mount to how you wear it and calibrate styles.

Why. The active mount doesn't match how you're wearing the phone, or the phone slides in its pocket.

Fix. Pick the right mount and calibrate each style you use. The loose-phone alert tells you when it moves.

Still stuck? See Questions, or email support right away from Settings, Support, with diagnostics attached (Support settings). In a cave it waits in your Outbox until you have signal.
